If you’re a sports fan or a baseball fan, you know that the Major League Baseball season began in April and is now in full swing. Additionally, the Salt Lake Bees, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, are also well into their season. But baseball will finally return to Ogden this weekend, as Ogden’s own minor-league ball club, the Ogden Raptors, will celebrate their first home game of the 2013 season this Saturday, June 22nd.
The Raptors’ season actually begins tomorrow night, as Ogden takes to the road to face the Grand Junction Rockies. The Raptors then return home on Saturday for their home opener against the Idaho Falls Chukars.
For those who may not know, the Ogden Raptors are an affiliate of the MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers. The Raptors compete in the Pioneer League, a minor-league baseball league primarily designated for rookie baseball players. The Pioneer League is mostly comprised of players who choose to enter professional baseball right out of high school.
As a rookie league, the Pioneer League is one of the first leagues many professional baseball players compete in on their way to the Major Leagues. Many current well-known MLB stars, such as Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds and Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies, can trace their roots to the Pioneer League. Current MLBers who once played for the Ogden Raptors include Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers and JJ Hardy of the Baltimore Orioles.
So by attending an Ogden Raptors game, you have a chance to see the next generation of MLB stars before anybody else!
If you are interested in attending the Raptors opening home game—or any other game this season—with your family or friends, you can purchase tickets online or at the ticket office at Lindquist Field, where the Raptors play their home games. General admission (medal bleachers) tickets begin at just $3, while reserved seating (chair-back seats) begin at just $5. To see schedule of upcoming Raptors games, click here.
As mentioned, the Raptors play their home games at Lindquist Field in downtown Ogden. While you’re here for a Raptors game, but sure to experience all that this area has to offer. Before the game, dine at one of the many fine restaurants here—a couple of our favorites include Sonora Grill at the Salomon Center or Bistro 258 on Historic 25th Street. Or, if your kids aren’t too tired after the game, take them over to FatCats for a round of bowling or mini-golf. With the Ogden Raptors, countless excellent restaurants, and numerous other attractions, you’ll find no shortage of things to do in downtown Ogden!
After a long off-season, baseball finally returns to Ogden when the Raptors host the Idaho Falls Chukars in their season home-opener. We’ll see you at the ball game!
