Coalville, Utah, a small city in the mountains east of the Wasatch Front, is the county seat of Summit County.  Coalville shares no border with another city, but the city's nearest neighbors are Henefer to the north and Hoytsville to the south.  This city was founded in 1859 by a man named William Henderson Smith.  Smith's family and four other families established farms in the area and named their new settlement "Chalk Creek."  Around the same time, a coal vein was discovered near the settlement, and coal mining began right away.  Subsequently, Chalk Creek was renamed to Coalville.

Today, more than 2,600 residents call Coalville home.  Life in Coalville is quiet and peaceful.  Located in an area of the Wasatch Mountains known as the Wasatch Back, this city is surrounded by mountains and farmland.  Nonetheless, Coalville is not too far out of the way.  Echo Reservoir, for example, is right outside Coalville.  In addition, Park City and its three ski resorts--Park City Mountain Resort, Canyons, and Deer Valley--are all within 30 minutes by way of I-80.  In addition, Salt Lake City is within 50 minutes.  Beyond that, Coalville is a gateway for outdoor adventure, with many horse trails, ATV trails, and fishing and hunting hotspots nearby.
