Woods Cross, Utah, is a city at the southern end of Davis County.  Woods Cross shares a boundary with West Bountiful to the north, Bountiful to the east, North Salt Lake to the south, and the Great Salt Lake to the west.  The area of present-day Woods Cross was settled in 1865, seventeen years after Mormon pioneers arrived in Utah.  The settlement was named after Daniel C. Wood, one of the first Mormon pioneers to inhabit the area.  Woods Cross was officially incorporated in 1935.

Today, approximately 11,400 residents call Woods Cross home.  Woods Cross considers itself a "Community of Promise," a program organized in 2001 by former Mayor Jerry Larrabee.  This program is based on Colin Powell's America's Promise Program and aims to provide citizens with caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, marketable skills, and opportunities to serve, according to the city's website.  To that end, the Community of Promise serves residents of Woods Cross with volunteer functions, which include the Summer Literacy Program, Senior's Lunch Bunch, City Wide Book Club, the Gardening Group, City Beautification, Back Yard Walk, Suicide Prevention, Welcome Baby, Emergency Preparedness, and Uniting Neighbors.  This program also assists with organizing the Summer Recreation Program and the city's annual Memorial Day Celebration.  Community of Promise helps make Woods Cross a great place to live. Woods Cross contains mostly residential and suburban living. In addition, the median home age is below the natural average. Woods Cross contains significant rental living as well; approximately 21% of the cities population are renters.
